چکیده
The flow over a flat-tipped wing at three Reynolds numbers: R e = 1 × 10 4 , 4, and 5 is investigated using direct numerical simulation. A set of grid independent results are obtained which allow for the dynamics tip flow, trailing vortices, their interplay with boundary layer to be examined in detail. show significant changes across number range. At lowest number, single vortex forms downstream edge, whereas multiple vortices form higher numbers. geometry shown important regard development different structures transition from laminar turbulent. Local Acoustic Forcing of a Wing at Low Reynolds Numbers
At transitional Reynolds numbers 104 − 105 , many smooth airfoils experience laminar flow separation and possible turbulent reattachment, where the occurrence of either state is strongly influenced by small changes in the surrounding environment. متن کاملVortex Tubes in Turbulence Velocity Fields at High Reynolds Numbers
The elementary structures of turbulence, i.e., vortex tubes, are studied using velocity data obtained in laboratory experiments for boundary layers and duct flows at microscale Reynolds numbers Reλ = 332–1934. While past experimental studies focused on intense vortex tubes, the present study focuses on all vortex tubes with various intensities. We obtain the mean velocity profile. The radius sc...
متن کاملSuboptimal feedback control of vortex shedding at low Reynolds numbers
The objective of this study is to develop a method of controlling vortex shedding behind a bluff body using control theory. A suboptimal feedback control procedure for local sensing and local actuation is developed and applied to the flow behind a circular cylinder. The location of sensors for feedback is limited to the cylinder surface and the control input from actuators is the blowing and su...
متن کاملSedimentation of Oblate Ellipsoids at low and Moderate Reynolds numbers
In many applications to biophysics and environmental engineering, sedimentation of non-spherical particles for example: ellipsoids, is an important problem. In our work, we simulate the dynamics of oblate ellipsoids under gravity. We study the settling velocity and the average orientation of the ellipsoids as a function of volume fraction. We see that the settling velocity shows a local maximum...
متن کاملImpinging laminar jets at moderate Reynolds numbers and separation distances.
An experimental and numerical study of impinging, incompressible, axisymmetric, laminar jets is described, where the jet axis of symmetry is aligned normal to the wall. Particle streak velocimetry (PSV) is used to measure axial velocities along the centerline of the flow field. The jet-nozzle pressure drop is measured simultaneously and determines the Bernoulli velocity. The flow field is simul...
